Pittsburgh reduce

I used to live in Bloomfield, Pittsburgh. My stuff has been in an attic the last few years because... I need to reduce my large pile of belongings. I figure I'll drop things off to various places. What non-profits would like donated items? Anything specific - like for books, clothes, kitchen items? I partially don't want to overload one place and my PGH knowledge is out of date. Who is rad?!

Best answer: Domestic violence agencies always need everything. People who escape domestic violence often escape with only the clothes on their back, and have to start over from zero. The one I work for (not in Pittsburgh) always especially needs kitchen supplies. My internet connection is shit right now, so I can’t link, but if you go to DomesticShelters.org, you can plug in your zip code and find an agency.

And it *is* National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Best answer: SisTersPGH does a lot of good work helping homeless queer people get into stable housing. It might be worth asking if they can use the kitchen items or clothes for their clients, if they're in good condition.

If you have anything like hand or power tools, sewing or screen printing supplies, etc., Prototype PGH is a feminist makerspace that may be able to use your donations.

Best answer: House construction type supplies, light fixtures, etc to Construction Junction

I often give in season clothing or gently used housewares (blankets, small appliances, dishes, etc) to the Wilkinsburg or Braddock free stores
