What's the formula for successful ebook marketing?

Are there any good, (preferably free) resources on ebook promotion and marketing on the internet or elsewhere? What would fellow MeFi's say is the formula for successful ebook marketing?

There is of course having a good product to begin with, and getting the word out. Then I've heard there should be a picture of the ebook (because people will not buy what they don't see), but what are other "rules" of the ebook trade? What are successful ebook sellers doing, and how are they doing it?

The only successful ebook seller is Jim Baen's Webscription.

It is successful because it doesn't use DRM, it provides books in every format under the sun, and it charges less than the cost of a mass-market paperback.

Are you speaking of the legitamite type such as nmiell or are you speaking of the make money fast sort? I have a friend that specializes in the make money fast kind. He makes a nice amount of money on the side with little effort. He spends some of his time buying google text ads. If you want the link I'd prefer to just email it.

There is a link to a free ebook that talks about marketing ebooks and developing multiple streams of income on the internet. It can be found at www.uplineonline.net Its downloadable about 60 pages.
