Some models do now have it on a replaceable card, but compatible upgrades tend to be impossible to find.

What laptop are you talking about?

I had an older Dell Inspiron and it had a replaceable video card, but most laptops don't. Check the manufacturer's website or the manual.

It does depend on the laptop and is in no way as clear cut as delmoi would have you believe.

I recently upgraded my Dell Latitude D800 by:

swapping the harddrive (easy)

upgrading the screen (easy if you know how to use a screwdriver)

upgrading the processor (first checking that the BIOS could use the faster speed)

I could easily have changed the graphics card too, on the way to the processor, but there was no need.
