Question: SteamVac needs some fixing

A recently purchase (6 months old) Hoover SteamVac Dual V died...

Well, the thing (http://www.hoover.com/db/xq/asp.hvrProductMain/CatID.6/SubID.8/ProdID.203/ModID.1657/qx/F7425900.htm) still runs but the bottom scrubbers no longer spin. The closest service center is an hour away and they don't offer phone support. Any ideas on who I might be able to fix this thing?

(Does who actually mean how?)

I see the scrubbers are removable. Have you tried removing them and looking in there? There's a faint chance you might see something useful. There might be a belt which has broken, or there could be a wad of hair/dust bunnies/pet fur in there getting in the way. That seems like two likely choices you could address yourself. If there's some kind of clutch or gearing that has failed, it would probably take a Professional, but you might be able to tell if you just peeked and backed out, replacing screws as you exit. Just sort of take off parts until you figure you're in over your head, and then quit.

IANABrokenFixer, but I once talked an out of state kid through this same problem on a vacuum cleaner, and said kid has no discernable mechanical talent.

Hopefully, someone more helpful will be along shortly.

Read page 16 of the user manual - something about cleaning the filter (page 10, figure 3-2) and setting the brush agitator selector to "ON" (page 7, figure 2-7).

This model doesn't seem to have any replaceable belts listed as parts.

If you've misplaced the user manual you can find it at this link user manual.
