Probably a long shot, but Any one knows this song with lyrics something like: "Band keeps playing..... on the radio....." Sounds like Bryan Ferry or Tom petty. Kinda slow, moody. I remember knowing who did it b4, but for the life of me can't remember anymore. I was at Cosi eating lunch when i heard it.. Thanks a bunch guys...

David Bowie's Let's Dance?

Nope, it's "Oh yeah" by Bryan Ferry.

There's a band playing on the radio
With a rhythm of rhyming guitars

Roxy Music did a song called On the Radio.

"Probably a long shot"

Shirley you jest!

The song I'm thinking of is called Oh Yeah On The Radio. [/anal]

Yeah, I think the full title is "Oh Yeah (On the Radio)". Full lyrics here.

Could be Suede's The Wild Ones...

There’s a song playing on the radio
Sky high in the airwaves on the morning show
And there’s a lifeline slipping as the record plays
And as I open the blinds in my mind I’m believing that you could stay...

Maybe Static On The Radio by Jim White and Aimee Mann?
Everything I think I know is just static on the radio. Midnight rendezvous with a pretty girl, wearing a torn and tear-stained gown.

That rings bells. Emmylou Harris covered Donna Summer's "On The Radio". No mention of a band, though.

But there's something else on the tip of my tongue... Got it. Mojave 3, Love Songs on the Radio. Again, lyrics don't fit exactly, according to Google. Damn it. This is really irritating, those lyrics sounds really familiar to me.

Reminds me of Bowie too. "Let's dance, to the song they're playin' on the radio." (My least-favorite Bowie phase, by the way; I loved "Scary Monsters", especially the title cut).

On "Let's Dance" the vocal delivery is slow and moody, but the music isn't. Bowie gets "witty" like that sometimes.

Or maybe you mean Wall of Voodoo's "Mexican Radio, my own favorite radio-mentioning tune?

Rod Stewart - Having a Party ?

That popped into my head the moment I read this post.

Minor clarification, but I don't think "Oh Yeah" was ever recorded by Bryan Ferry. Ferry performed it live as a solo artist, but the version you want is probably from the Flesh and Blood album, and was a UK hit for Roxy Music.

I'll go with those saying "Oh Yeah", by Roxy. Marvellous song.

The Load-Out, by Jackson Browne?

Now we got country and western on the bus
R&B, we got disco in eight tracks and cassettes in stereo
We've got rural scenes & magazines
We've got truckers on the CB
We've got richard pryor on the video
We got time to think of the ones we love
While the miles roll away
But the only time that seems too short
Is the time that we get to play

Lyrically this is nowhere near a precise match, but thematically it called out to me. Just putting it out there.

This is the closest part I can find to your lyrics, it's the chorus.

'Cause I really can't take it when they keep on playin' it
It's so unhappy and so close to home
I don't want to hear it but the singer keeps singin' that song

That one's about a thousand years old (OK, 1976) and probably not it, but it does have a soft voice feel to it. That's Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show, "The Radio".
