Long-form article about employers firing employees over healthcare

A few years ago, I remember reading a fascinating long-form article about employers firing or otherwise penalising employees whose healthcare costs were too high. It went into detail on a couple of specific cases (IIRC one case was about a father whose daughter had cancer). I was pretty sure that I'd found this via Metafilter originally, but I've searched the archives and can't locate it. Does anyone know which article I'm talking about and have a link?
Was it something written by Deanna Fei? Her daughter was a micropreemie and her husband worked for AOL, whose head honcho made a stink about “distressed babies” racking up loads of bills for employers via the employed parent’s insurance. IIRC, Fei wrote a book but was published widely elsewhere regarding her family’s (and similar) experiences.
