Availability of specific phone numbers?

How can I find out if a specific 7-digit phone number is available in any state the US or UK?

It looks like you can do it here: https://numberbarn.com. (That said, this website just aggregates other search data and then tries to make a buck as a middleman by selling it. You can probably go straight to the source somewhere or another, although when I've tried to get numbers using Google Voice or even at the T-Mobile store, they just have a block of twenty or so you can choose from, and which they can refresh as often as you'd like.)

Google voice has limited phone numbers, but more flexibility (you can . For example, I wasn't able to get a number from my town, but towns near mine (and my town isn't a small town). Still, you can start by searching available numbers by city or area code.

Searching now, I found phonenumberguy for U.S. numbers, and numberchoice in the U.K.

It's worth noting that there isn't a simple analog of a 7-digit phone number in the UK. All numbers have 9 or 10 digits total (after the initial 0), but the STD codes (the analog of area codes) vary in length from 2 to 5 digits.
