recordkeeping tire pyrometer of the gods

i would like a probe based tire pyrometer for track use that does the record keeping for me. That is, when i probe inside, middle, and outside on each tire, it records the values and shows me the values from previous sessions.

leaning on an iphone for logging and display is fine, tying into an arduino or raspberry pi could work, but i do not want to use a laptop.

does such a pyrometer exist commercially for < $500?

You might try asking at the Grassroots Motorsports forum or the 24hrs of Lemons (not a typo) forum.

Best answer: Absolutely, That's a very achievable budget: https://www.pegasusautoracing.com/productdetails.asp?RecID=875

However, I caution too much 'reading' of tyre temps unless you are going to do it properly. If you aren't reading tyre temps within 30 seconds of coming off track (ie as soon as you stop in your pit box) they are likely junk and only a very VERY rough guide. Also, your in lap should be a hot one.

Basically, tyre temp usefulness goes in the following relevance scale:

1: Awesome = temp sensors on the car while running.

2: Almost as good but illegal/wildly dangerous = car slamming to a stop on the pit straight and you hop over the wall and take the temps as the car rolls to a stop

3: 'Useful' but needs interpretation based on pit-in length, aggressiveness of in-lap = Stop in pit box and have crew take temps as soon as car stops.

4: 'Pretty much convince yourself of a lot of things = >30 seconds after the car is startionary or >1 minute after car has left racing surface (ie entered pit lane).

5: Total dog egg = Anything less immediate than the above. If you are trying to take them yourself in pit lane? Hmmmm *maybe*. if you want to take them when you get back to the paddock or (worse) do them yourself when you get back to the paddock? Save your money.

Basically anything other than 3, and you may as well do it with tyre wear and tyre surface inspection after you come in. You can get good-ish looking stuff, but it needs to be validated against '3' anyway.
