Does a 5e ranger using a longbow add its dexterity mod to the Horde Breaker damage roll? “Once on each of your turns when you make a weapon attack, you can make another attack with the same weapon against a different creature...”

Best answer: Yes! Dexterity (or Strength for non-finesse/ranged weapons) mods are always added to damage except in the case of a bonus action offhand attack (unless you have the two-weapon fighting style).

The answer here is yes, but "always added to damage" is somewhat ambiguous phrasing. It's because it's a separate attack that you add it. You wouldn't add it twice for example for a single attack that benefits from colossus slayer or hunter's mark even though you could arguably be rolling separate "sources" of damage.

Response by poster: Thanks, all. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get two baddies within 5 feet of each other for the rest of the session, but I’m prepared for next time.
