Need a great week at a lake house in the Western US

My best friend turns 50 this summer (how can this be-we were both 19 ten or fifteen minutes ago?!?!). She’d love to have us all meet at a lake house for a week-and chill. She’s in Phoenix, the rest of us are in Oregon. Criteria-8-10 people. Ideally dogs OK. Driving distance from Western Oregon would be great (cheaper for her to fly than for all of us) but flexible on that.

Northern California? Western Washington? Probably mid-August. Ideally not expensive-under 3K for the week would be great. Doesn’t need to be a big lake, but would love to be able to swim and kayak. So where do you love? Lake and/or specific rental recommendations would be great.

Is Flathead Lake in Polson, Montana too far?

I live in Oregon too. Have you considered Woahnik Lake? A bunch of houses in Airbnb. Added benefit of being close to the ocean. I have heard staying in a houseboat at Lake Shasta is fun.

Response by poster: Flathead is great-I grew up in Montana and met my first husband there :). Hmmm. It’s a trek from here, maybe 14 hours, but such a gorgeous spot.

Woahink is also great-my current husband used to live on that lake. I’ve nevr thought about renting there cause it was just where we lived, but also a good idea and that’d be easy.

So clearly you guys are on the right track with my taste!

How about Lake Chelan. It's a 50 mile long lake with a fairly low key recreation area within a reasonable drive from Portland. There's biking, kayaking, spas and cabins and hotels.

Just an FYI on the Flathead in Montana - it's going to be hard to get housing because everyone wants to go to Glacier National Park. You can get some tips/ideas on the Montana Tripadvisor forum (search for that term.)
