Is there a free "small appliance" repair database on the web?

A few months back I read an article about a movement in the US where people could bring their broken appliances into a shop and hobbyists would help fix them up (for free). My Google-Fu is failing me, is there a resource online that lists these places?

Bonus points if you know of one of these places in Massachusetts!

Best answer: Fixit Clinic is one such organization / set of events. They have had some events in Massachusetts.

Best answer: Repair Cafe is the organization that does this in my area. They appear to have some groups in Massachusetts.

In Europe, such places/events are called 'repair cafes'. Maybe try that as a search term?

Sorry this is only half an answer, but... the Edinburgh Remakery is one of these and their Press page has loads of articles about this movement around the world - if you've time to go through those articles you might find links to what you're looking for.
