Baby, it's cold outside

How can I set a temperature-related reminder for myself?

I need to defrost my chest freezer. The easiest time to do that is when we have a good cold snap, so I can move the food out to my balcony while I defrost. Last winter was mild (thanks, global warming!) and I forgot during the appropriate cold snaps. How can I go about reminding myself "It's freezing! Time to defrost!" this winter? Thanks!

Best answer: IFTTT.com will do this. Set up a task to email you when your local temperature drops below whatever degrees.

Best answer: Could you do something clever with IFTTT?

Best answer: In addition to being the least crap general weather app I've used so far, Weather Underground also has a neat feature where you can set "smart forecasts" and the app will pop up a thing when your particular forecast is coming up.

For instance, if you're a beachy kinda person, you can set forecast parameters for temp/sun/humidity etc and the thing will pop up a notification when you have ideal beach weather coming up.

Personally I have a mood forecast set for when it's gonna be cool and dark because that's my happy place.

You can totally set one with both daily high and low targets in the freezing range so you'll know you have a nice several hours long stretch of food safe balcony weather.

Best answer: I came in to say the same thing, with a slightly deeper link: https://ifttt.com/weather

Yep, I specifically set a thing up to tell myself "Hey it's snowing" using the IFTTT weather stuff. Very simple to send a text or even (i think) an email and I found it worked well and I didnt' get any weird spam.

I have an IFTT for alerting me when the temp drops below 30F. I think I originally created it so I would know if a frost was coming and could cover or bring plants indoors.
