There used to be a website by these artists/activist types who built crazy machines. Help me find it.
One of their inventions was a pitching machine that threw 2x4s at very dangerous speeds. The machine was run by two Chevy engines. They also had a really neet shockwave cannon.

The Seemen is done by an ex-SRL dude, who once answered an art student's stupid questions about where he bought his shit to make the work with (granger's catalog, for what it's worth).

There's also Survival Research Labs based in the Bay Area. The often do shows down in LA as well. They've been around for years. I have a VHS tape from a friend of mine that she bought at a show of theirs in the 80s.
