I need a specific cat litter delivered to me today. Help! (Chicago)
September 18, 2018 8:18 AM   Subscribe

I am currently unable to lift anything heavy, so I need to have it delivered to my home. I am also unable to drive at the moment. I need this cat litter, and no other, and I need it now. I screwed up by not ordering in advance (I thought I had another box in the house). I need it today. Unfortunately, I am striking out on the usual same-day delivery options....

Amazon Prime can get it to me by Thursday.
Chewy can get it to me by Thursday.
PetCo can get it to me by Thursday.
PetSmart can get it to me by Thursday.
Walmart can get it to me by Thursday.
Target can get it to me by Thursday.

You see my problem.

I checked Prime Now, but they only have the lightweight version, which my cats will not use.

Any and all advice greatly appreciated.

Best answer: Hire someone from task rabbit to go to a store, buy it for you, and bring it to you.

This feels like a really good time to sign on to your local neighborhood mailing list or NextDoor site, Craigslist, TaskRabbit, or maybe just an email blast to good local friends, offering to pay someone to run this errand for you.

Do you have Instacart? That's same day. GOOD LUCK.

Do any of your local supermarkets or corner stores deliver? It shouldn’t be a hard brand to find and they seem to be the kind of places fhat so same day.

Signed up for Instacart from your suggestion (thanks!). They don't have it.

Yes, lots.

YOU WOULD THINK SO, WOULDN'T YOU. The brand is everywhere; the unscented version is nowhere. Every single place I've checked only has the kind with Febreze in it.

Hire someone from taskrabbit

Holy... they want twice the price of the product to go get the product. Wow. Well, I guess that's my only option. Thank you for the suggestion.

A tip on Instacart, assuming there are multiple stores available to you: Search for the thing on one store, then go down to the bottom of the results page and see if it says "Available at other stores" with a dropdown of other stores.

Response by poster: How about Peapod?

Peapod is a next-day-or-later delivery service.

Thanks, everyone - I guess I'm paying double through TaskRabbit. Lesson learned.

Given these parameters, I'd do a blast email and/or Facebook post asking for help from friends and family. Someone in that group can help, or has a teenager or college student who'll do it for $20.

Yeah, I would ask in my Facebook neighborhood group or Nextdoor. Or even on Metafilter jobs if you live in a place where MeFites live.

For future reference - some of the restaurant delivery services (the ones that deliver from any restaurant) will actually deliver pretty much anything except animals, guns and alcohol. When I was doing that work, I delivered everything from new headphones from Best Buy, to someone's forgotten house keys, to a pack of cigarettes delivered to a drunk guy at a bar.
