Haunted by a song in a goddamn Coke ad

Recently movie theaters 'round here were showing a Coke ad that had some interesting music. The ad was a series of stills telling a story of someone going back in time and giving [the hated product] to various people, running out, pissing off Genghis Khan, etc. The music wasn't in English, sounded Eastern European to my ignorant ears. It had a male voice and a sort of swinging sound. They don't seem to be playing this ad anymore here. What was the music?

I know it's in Italian, but that's all I could determine. I desperately want to know what it is too!

Best answer: "Via Con Me" Paolo Conte, an Italian singer

Found it on ADtunes by googling Coke and Genghis from your description.

I saw that spot last night at the theater. I liked it better than the movie.

Chips, chips, chips.
Doo-be-doo-be-doo.

I was looking for a piece of music from an advert for over ten years that turned out to be Max by Paolo Conte (elegaic, violin music, used in pasta sauce advert in the late 80s).

Paolo Conte == Cool

Response by poster: Oh yes, thanks krossbow!

(I think the version used in the ad is different than the version(s) on iTunes; the search goes on..)

Best answer: There are two versions (at least) by Conte - studio and live. But you might be interested in this Google Answer.

(It's by Mark Mothersbaugh.)

Response by poster: It is the Mothersbaugh one in the ad, which seems to be based on Conte's live version. The thing about the song that caught me in the first place is the energetic "chips chips" which isn't present in any of the Conte versions but which Mothersbaugh does.

Thanks Grangousier.
