Getting back into Yoga

Hello! I would like to get back into Yoga. I used to go to classes - but I'd prefer a really well done home-video solution. Is there anything that's just like going to classes, but in the on-demand video format? Ideally free. Thanks!

If it matters I used to like Vinyasa Yoga sessions of about 50 minutes. Seeing the visuals of the instructor along with typical instructions would be nice.

But really, anything free, or close to free, would be greatly appreciated!

I see a lot of recommendations for Rodney Yee on Netflix (Which we have) but it appears to not be on netflix any more. In fact, I'm not seeing any Yoga on netflix!

DoYogaWithMe.com has the ability to sort by yoga type, length of practice etcetera and has been a really great resource for me.

Yoga with Adriene is fantastic.

Everybody has yoga teachers they like, and friends whose favorite yoga teachers they can't stand. Kassandra wasn't my style, Adrienne is good most of the time, DoYogaWithMe has some instructors I like and others I don't (like any studio), and I've hit a couple of just awful ones in a "15-minute morning yoga" Google search. So be patient, keep poking around until you find something. If you don't mind doing the same few videos once you find some you like, or if you're pretty tolerant in what criteria you're looking for, this will be fine, suggestions above are good!

For me, the paradox of choice was too much, I'd spend as long choosing what video to do as actually doing the video. I'm now on the free version of the DownDog app, which algorithmically generates a practice of the length and level you specify. I'm impressed with how it mostly sticks together like a human-generated sequence (definitely not a random assortment of poses!) and how much variation there is from day to day. The teaching and video is adequate if not stunning, and is (important to me) neutral, neither spiritual nor fat-burn. The app is a great "daily" (aka more-than-weekly, I'm trying!) practice as a supplement to less-frequent live studio classes. But I've pretty much given up on searching for videos.

I like the chill, laid-back feeling of Sarah Beth Yoga: that link will hopefully take you to her youtube playlists, where you'll be able to find her videos organized by yoga style. See what you think of her Vinyasa offerings.

As well as the free youtube videos, she has a $20-per-month subscription option available through her website.

I hope you find something awesome!

Thirding Yoga with Adriene, and note that she has a range of styles, from the breathy-voice pan flute and mountain meadow type (not my favorite) to very down-to-earth, cracking jokes, here's my yoga in my living room type (which I much prefer). If you don't respond to one of her videos, it's still worth trying a few more before deciding.

I love Five Parks Yoga on YouTube. Always well done and longer videos to choose from.

I really like yoga with Adriene too. Agreed with the others, it's mostly about which instructor you personally like the most. Although i generally watch Adriene, I've gone through phases with other teachers too:

- "Yoga with Kassandra" has a lot of Yin yoga (slow yoga, where you sit in each posture for some time. not strenuous and sometimes not relaxing too.)
- "Five Parks Yoga" has probably my favorite single class of all time, her "20 minute deep stretch" video hits the exact tempo and things that i like. I watch that one often. Her other videos are pretty good too.
- Sara Beth Yoga and Fightmaster yoga are other teachers who come recommended often, but i never really got into them.
- "Yoga by Candace" has a lot more power yoga, and quite a few just regular exercise classes. I'd look here if you're wanting a more intense yoga.
- "Brett Larkin Yoga" is also one of my favorites. She's got a focus on the spiritual/zen/mental aspect of yoga and does some classes focused on breathing and meditation and other related activities.

Some of these instructors have communities that are free to join if you're looking for that aspect of going to classes. Adriene has a "find what feels good" community you can join here: https://www.fwfgkula.com/

Brett Larkin has a facebook group called yoga hackers you can join here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/112605845750434/

I use the Daily Yoga App good mix and you can set up a schedule or program.
There is a paid for version but the free one is good too.
