Musicals like The Greatest Showman

My daughter is in love with the music in The Greatest Showman. What other musicals would she like? I think it is the percussion-heavy nature of the songs she likes, plus the Efron/Zendaya romance.

I played some of my favorites, and the results:

Phantom of the Opera song: no
Hamilton, Alexander Hamilton: no
Les Mis, Master of the House: ok
Wicked, Defying Gravity: yes, but they don't sing enough (it is about half talking)
Moulin Rouge, Elephant Love Song Melody and Your Song: yes, but really using Moulin Rouge is cheating, isn't it?

Thanks!

My daughter also loved The Greatest Showman, and she also enjoys these cast albums:

Dear Evan Hansen
Be More Chill
Heathers
The Lightning Thief

Chicago, Razzle Dazzle or Cell Block Tango (you didn't mention how old she is, maybe not appropriate)
Cats, Magical Mr. Mistoffelees
Not exactly musicals but the Stomp and Blue Man Group songs are in this vein
Anything from High School Musical or Glee?

My daughter (11) is obsessed with Onegin (Canadian musical); very dramatic and all about a romance.

Depending on age appropriateness:

Rent
Next to Normal
Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812

Best answer: Starting with more Pasek and Paul would probably be a good bet. Some ones that come to mind as having a driving percussive angle are Dear Evan Hansen (try "Waving Through a Window" or "Good for You") as well as some of the songs they wrote for Smash, like "Caught in a Storm," "I Heard Your Voice in a Dream," and "Rewrite This Story."

One musical that has amazing music of many genres, including some thrilling fast and percussive numbers, is Waitress. I'd recommend starting with "Bad Idea."

(Btw, from your description it sounds like a better sample from Hamilton might've been "Wait for It" -- that one flies and has an incredible vocal and percussive arc).

Also seconding miles1972's recs.

If she is younger then 'The Slipper and the Rose', a cracking version of the Cinderella story. Try 'What a wonderful thing to know' and 'Protocoligolically correct'.

My four year old is also obsessed with the Greatest Showman and I have contemplated asking this question. She recently also fell in love with Grease because "there is a circus at the end like the Greatest Showman."

Your Hugh Jackman-obsessed child may vary, of course.

Newsies (the Broadway, not the old movie). And Stomp.

My 13 year old daughter also loved the Greatest Showman which kicked her into auditioning and getting a small part in the "Annie" musical at her middle school. She also loved Dear Evan Hansen, Newsies version of Broadway, High School Musical and Glee.
