Unstretch my neck!

Where can I find men's undershirts that have crewnecks that don't stretch out? Alternatively, is there a way to prevent the necks from getting stretched out in the first place? Or can they be un-stretched back into place?

My husband wears a crewneck white cotton undershirt almost every day. Within 2-3 months of purchase, the necks are stretched out and out of shape.

These are worn just once before washing. These are never hung up, only folded. Washed on warm, dried on warm. High Efficiency detergent; sheet of fabric softener in the dryer.

They're basic Hanes-type undershirts. Would stepping up to a more expensive shirt like Duluth help with the neck issue? Does washing in Woolite or another detergent make a difference? Woolite says it helps the fabrics to keep their shape.

What works for you? T-shirt brands ideas welcome. (V-necks are not an option.) Does the blend of fabrics make a difference? Maybe we need some stretch in the fabric?

Best answer: My partner has the same problem and we've come to the conclusion that it's more how the shirt is taken off than what the shirt is made of.

Best answer: Going slightly more expensive helps. I have been buying these lately and they keep their shape nicely. They are V-neck but they make crew in same fit/style.

Best answer: In the past year I've switched to Uniqlo undershirts and I've been impressed with their quality.

Best answer: I was going to say the same thing as urbanlenny, about how the shirt is taken off. Figuring that out was a revelation for my old roommate.

Best answer: Nthing the thinking that he's probably stretching the neck opening when he puts on/takes off the undershirt. No amount of fancy expensive undershirt will compensate for this. You might consider starting him with a fresh undershirt and ask him to be extra-careful in how he puts it on and takes it off. If the undershirts are very form-fitting (generally speaking, I feel like undershirts have a smaller fit than t-shirts), it may mean a multi-step process in which he moves his head through the neck opening separately from the other moves.

Response by poster: *mind blown* Never even gave it a thought about how the t-shirt is removed from the body. That video is perfect (though I take off my shirts a different way, so I feel unrepresented, LOL). (Left arm squeezed through first, then head and right arm - I dunno, it's how I've always done it!)

I'll see if we can get some new shirts and start fresh. Thanks, all!

I can't find them any longer in my area, but I'm a big fan of Smith's Work Wear T Shirts. They last forever and keep their shape.
