Can you please help identify the following screw type and tell me where I can purchase a bit that will unlock said screw? Here is the link to the image of the screw: https://imgur.com/a/yEwc85C. More information inside...

I have an RV and the 7 pin cord fell out and dragged 200 miles ruining the cable that goes from the car to the Tekonsha Prodigy brake controller. I bought a new cable but unfortunately the box has these locked screws. I went to home depot and bought Klein Tools Magnetic Screwer with 32-Piece Tamperpoof bit set and none fit ( https://www.homedepot.com/p/Klein-Tools-Magnetic-Screwdriver-with-32-Piece-Bit-Set-32510/100648026 ).

Please help - going on a trip next week with the kids and need to get this fix asap.

Thank you!!

Looks like a Torx Security drive. Should be able to find a driver-set on Amazon pretty easily.

Why didn't the set that you tried not work? Was it just the size, or were the bits actually incompatible?

Best answer: That’s a five-point star tamperproof screw — Torx are six-point. Here’s a bit set on amazon that should work: Silverhill 5 Point Star Tamper Proof Bit Set, 10 Piece

I'm pretty sure I bought a set of these from Home Depot to repair a laptop. Take that picture in (or better yet, the screw+assembly itself) and anyone there can find the correct bit for you. I checked bradf's suggestion and found this at homedepot.com. Also notice your picture has 5 points, while the set you bought has 6 (from what I can see).

In an emergency I have had some success using a small good quality flat screwdriver to bridge the lobes and/or breaking out the center pin and using a slightly wider flat screwdriver with this type of screw.

Best answer: You can't do the flat screwdriver trick with a five-point screw, unfortunately. bradf has it right.

Response by poster: Thanks everyone!

@SoFuckingFuture - Yep incompatible. Did not fit right at all.

@Bradf - that looks like it will do the trick! Have purchased. Thank you so much!!

If you need to fix it today, go to Home Depot and buy a Dremel and cut a slot in the screw making it into a normal flat headed screw.
