One romantic(?) night in London

Where should a couple stay for their 20th anniversary while traveling in and around London?

Mr & Mrs Turtlefu will be traveling to England for work and will be near Cambridge the first half and then London the second. We have one night between work halves on our own. We will have enough time to sight see and tour but if you had one night near London to be with your significant other what would you do and most importantly where would you stay? Decadence would be okay, and so would adventure. Not adverse to thinking outside the box either.

Best answer: The Landmark Trust has all sorts of fascinating historic lodgings across the country. We stayed in a lawn bowling pavilion in Derbyshire.

Is the Goring Hotel decadent enough? Quintessentially British and an experience in luxury and indulgence, I can tell you!

I would strongly urge you to consider the St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel London, because that's where the Spice Girls shot the Wannabe video. Talk about decadent adventures. (I haven't stayed there, but I did have a drink at the bar, which was quite nice.)

Personally, I love the Mandarin Oriental in Knightsbridge. Their restaurant "Dinner" is especially nice for a romantic lunch/dinner.

I'll second the St Pancras Hotel. The Gilbert Scott is lovely, as is the cocktail bar called (I think) The Booking Office. You can also just sit and watch the Eurostar trains leave for Paris and Brussels from that level.

Meh, stayed there for work once, wasn't too impressed.

The Corinthia in Trafalgar Square is quite swank and has very extensive spa facilities, if the Turtlefus like such things.

The Horseguards nearby is probably due for a bit of a refresh but has old-fashioned charm and, coughing up for the appropriate room or suite, you get that great view across the Thames.

The Milestone I always hear well of but it does seem to require a strong fondness for an English decorating aesthetic.

Similar ding against the St. Pancras Renaissance! I stayed there for work and there were false fire alarms two out of the four nights, and the room layout was completely inefficient.

Best answer: I’d look for somewhere out of London myself - better value and bigger rooms.

We personally love the Grand in Brighton. Go for the best room you can afford though, you want a sea view and ideally a proper balcony.

Best answer: There will also definitely be some lovely country house hotels around Cambridge - I don’t know the area but I’d check that out first if I were you. Again I’d pick a suite in a nice hotel over a shit room in a swanky one.

How about one night in the apartment in the St Pancras clock tower? It sounds amazing, and is decadent without being insane. You could do a luxury grocery shop, some excellent wine, and have a nice in a super swank flat with a great view. https://www.airbnb.co.uk/rooms/2805954
