Best techniques for finding an upper-level job in another city?

My husband and I are considering moving to Omaha, NE. He is currently an assistant vice president in the finance industry. His dream job would be a portfolio manager position. He has been at his current job for nearly 10 years and it's just time for a change.

I own my own business and work from home, so I have been trying to help him out by looking at job listings for him during the day. However, I am not finding much He has identified companies that he would like to work for, which helps to narrow it down a little bit.

So, I guess I am just looking for strategies, suggestions, tips, etc. Thanks!

Call the Omaha Chamber of Commerce and ask for a referral to a headhunter (or "executive recruiter" to put it politely)?

One of Berkshire Hathaway's insurance companies is actually located in Omaha - National Indemnity Cos. That company along with Mutual of Omaha would be natural places to look for portfolio management positions, but I'm sure this is not news to you.

He might want to read "Rites of Passage: Executive Job Changing". I'm only marginally in the target audience for the book, but it's still a good read and has lots of suggestions on how to find an executive position. Your husbandwill probably find it speaks to his issues.

If he's a CFA, their member job listings are pretty targeted at that type of job. Or you could try connecting with the local Omaha society - a pretty big percentage of them are PMs.
