Reading/resources for history of private spaceflight and people in it?

I'm working on an article or series about the origins of private spaceflight (going back to the '50s and '60s, not just the last decade) and I'm looking for interesting articles, essays, videos, and books. I'm also interested in highlighting any women or POC who may have been erased or downplayed in their own time. Any recommendations?

There is Baltimore’s Rocket to Venus, from 1928 (which I know about because of the bar named after it). Not quite sure how serious the attempt was.
