Question: Help me protect my new headphones!

What's the best way to protect my headphones when I'm on the move and not using them?

I just bough a set of Phillips SBC HP250 headphones to replace my Altec Lansings which just died. Like many people, I like to use these while listening to music when I'm riding the bus to work. When I'm not using them, I usually just stick them in my backpack, which is usually full of stuff from work or heavy things like bottles of drink for lunch or whatnot.

Anyway, I suspect that my Altec Lansings died because of damage they most probably took while I was carting them around in my backpack. I don't want these headphones to die too, so short of carrying them around in my hands, what's a good way to protect my headphones when I'm not using them?

This may or may not work for you, depending on how 'easy' a solution you want, but I used to throw my PortaPros into the case from a <2 5 cd spindle when i tossed them in my bag. with the cds taken out of course.br>
It's really easy to twist the thing open and closed, but it stays shut in your bag, has great protection, and is the perfect size/fit for lots of portable headphones.</2>

I really like ziplock bags to transport any audio equipment. It works great for keeping cables from getting tangled, but it also serves to protect a lot of the connectors from getting nicked.

I imagine it would also keep crap away from your headphones (crumbs and dust into the earpieces), and diffuse any concentrated impacts that may be directed at them.

I kept my headphone and cd player in an ammo can lined with egg crate foam.
