'80s movie ending with people walking in and out of a bar at night

I know it sounds really vague, and the details are probably a little bit off, but bear with me. I seem to remember it being a John Hughes movie, but looking at a list of his films, none of them rings a bell. The scene is definitely at night, and the camera is set across the street from a bar with lots of neon lights. It's basically a short time-lapse, but it isn't sped up. I also seem to remember a Ford Mustang parked in front of the bar, which drives away during the shot. Eventually the bar closes, I think the lights turn off, and the scene (and the movie?) ends. Does anyone else remember it?

Best answer: Could it have been St Elmo's Fire?

Not John Hughes, apparently, but has a bunch of John Hughes-y actors like Emilio Estevez, Andrew McCarthy, Judd Nelson and Ally Sheedy. And it definitely has scenes set in a bar, including the last one.
