What are some Whole30-friendly restaurants in NYC that don't require menu-hacking?

Basically I'd like to sit down, look at a menu and pick a dish like I'm a normal person at a normal restaurant. What I don't want is to have to cobble together a meal full of substitutions and replacements even if they're totally okay with it, eat at a buffet, etc.

If the restaurant happens to be vegan or gluten-free or whatever, that's completely fine.

Brazilian steakhouse?

I had a great time at Churrascaria Plataforma.

Oh I see you said no buffet. Well that is a component, but not the only component.

Hu Kitchen near Union Square is paleo so almost everything should be Whole30 compliant.

I think you could do this pretty easily at Westville (which is delicious!).

Westville has served this role for me before. Hu Kitchen is less atmospheric but definitely has options.

Inday in flatiron has some bangin' cauliflower rice and solid soy-free protein options and they are pretty scrupulous about labeling things as being dairy or gluten free. Its fast-casual but on the "nicer" end - and id gladly eat it when not whole30'ing.

Asian/Japanese could be good but id have a hard time eating sashimi without any soy sauce, and many cooked dishes tend to have at least some sugar added to them. . .

I know you said you don't want anything "full" of substitutions but what about a burger and salad, hold the bun/cheese etc. You could do the kale wrapped burger at bareburger but I don't think their food is all that tasty and im consistently appalled at the pricing (and I don't mind paying for food).

On the higher end of the spectrum, I've heard Cafe Clover is a good place for this. I liked Hu Kitchen a lot.

Good luck!

Catch has a whole “simply cooked” section of the menu that should be Whole30 friendly, and it’s the sort of place that seemed downright surprised when no one at our table had any substitutions or special requests.

Dig Inn, sushi, chipotle (only carnitas and certain toppings though), many Vietnamese restaurants, Hill Country barbecue.
