Tell me why the world needs feminism--seeking speeches, articles etc.

I need to write a kick-ass speech along the lines of "why the world needs feminism," and I'm looking for inspiration on a par with Hilary Clinton's famous Women's Rights are Human Rights speech. Please link me with your best sources of hard-hitting analysis, passionate argument, and great quotes. Mainstream English-language material is welcome but I would also like to find non-Western, LGBT and POC views.

Best answer: Feminism is for Everybody by bell hooks

Quotes from the book on Good Reads

such as:

“Feminist thinking teaches us all, especially, how to love justice and freedom in ways that foster and affirm life.”

“Boys need healthy self-esteem. They need love. And a wise and loving feminist politics can provide the only foundation to save the lives of male children. Patriarchy will not heal them. If that were so they would all be well.”

Good luck with your speech! Hope it kicks all the right asses. :)

I came here to suggest Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie as well. Haven't read the book but her TEDx talk by the same name is hella strong.

The book is essentially the talk, in my understanding.

The book is essentially the talk, in my understanding.

It's a short little volume, and essentially that talk, yes, but has a bit of fleshing-out.

It's great for quotes and sharing.
