Where do the cool kids in NYC shop?

I'll be in NYC for a day trip in the spring and am looking for cool places for shopping. Think something like Colette (RIP) in Paris.

I already know about Dover Street Market NYC and plan to stop there, but am wondering if there are other non-department store places that I shouldn't miss, especially places that have great fragrance / shoe / bag selections more than just clothes. I don't have time to hit up a thousand small boutiques, so bigger = better.

Best answer: Seconding Opening Ceremony. More boutique-y: Totokaelo, Assembly, Maryam Nasser Zadeh, Bird

Most of what you’re looking for is, unfortunately, centered on small boutiques.

However! Totokaelo has 3 floors and fantastic sales if you can catch them.

Lower east side has tons of great boutiques- specifically on Orchard street between canal and Houston, and ludlow between Hester and Houston. Top Hat and Coming Soon are two stuff-oriented favorites, and there’s tons of vintage/clothing/food in the same zone. Good galleries also. The food at spitzers corner is decent but the window seats in the front are A+++ NYC people watching.
