Explain ISU rankings to me, please?

I'd call this inside baseball, but it's inside ice dance: how do the ISU world rankings work? Specifically, I don't understand this current ranking because Virtue/Moir in 3rd & Papadakis/Cizeron in 7th is crazy. Does this have to do with who's done 2 GP comps so far and who hasn't? Or...?

I can see that Virtue/Moir's 2-year layoff after Sochi might come into play, but I'm still confused about, say, Chock/Bates so far ahead of Papadakis/Cizeron who were world champs 2 years ago and in 2nd last year. Not to mention the fact that V/M are the current world champs.

Figure skating nerds, help me out here!

Response by poster: Okay, hang on. I see that this is the current season's rankings, in which who's done 1 GP vs. who has done 2 comes into play.

But I'm still confused about the current world rankings above.

I'm not sure how it's calculated myself, but you might want to send your question on to figureskatingask.tumblr.com.
