Dog-Friendly San Antonio

MrGood and I are visiting his mother and her husband in a few weeks. We are thinking about taking our four-month-old pit mix. Please tell me about dog-friendly things to do and places to go! Restaurants and coffee shops with dog-friendly patios, parks, outdoor shopping areas, etc. MIL lives in the Alamo Heights area, but we will have a car.

Best answer: Here are a few recommendations.

Fine dining in Alamo Heights with dog-friendly patio: Cappy's
Park: Brackenridge Park, and the nearby Japanese Tea Gardens
Mostly outdoor casual bars/restaurants: The Luxury, The Friendly Spot, The Pig Pen, The Cove
Shopping (and eating, and river walking): The Pearl. When in doubt, just go to the Pearl. Roughly 95 percent of the people walking around the Pearl have a dog.

Lost Maples was our favorite day trip when we lived in SA. When we hiked there we often wished we had a dog with us. You might hit the fall peak or soon after.

McAllister park is usually pretty low key and has a smaller off-leash dog area with some lovely trails that are visually interesting in every season.

Best answer: Ranger Creek Brewery welcomes “well behaved dogs and children” and their tasting room/brewery site.

Free Tail Brewery also has a really nice outdoor and dog friendly patio.

Hoppy Monk is pretty tasty and has great outdoor seating.

Gosh, I really like beer I guess.
