WebSummit - what's it good for?

For my code school final group project we decided to build a site for an entrepreneur who had pitched at PitchBlack - a "Shark Tank" like event for black people hoping to launch businesses. We built him a fabulous React/Redux app that is a perfect starting point for his business. We learned last week that he/we got invited to this WebSummit conference in Lisbon. If you get to the next round you may get a chance to pitch your idea in front of thousands of investors. If you win you get announced minutes before Al Gore speaks.

I'd never heard of WebSummit myself and am really interested to hear if you have any experience/feedback/insight into the conference. Our team is three women developers and a black entrepreneur so any insight into diversity in technology resources we might meet there would be greatly appreciated.

PS. I haven't yet found a situation in my life where the batshitinsane tag is irrelevant. YMMV.

This post was deleted for the following reason: Sorry, I'm confident it's unintended, but with the links and non-specific framing of the question, this really seems more like a promotion for this event. If you'd like to edit to ask a much more specific question about how you should present your pitch or whatever, please get in touch with us. -- taz
