Websites designed to appeal to girls 12-15 years old

I don't currently have any girls 12-15 years old in my social group so I'm asking your daughters, nieces, cousins, grand-daughters, etc, for website designs they find appealing.

I'm looking specifically for websites that have that gender and age-group as their target market (informed by very expensive market research), so if your girl loves metafilter and reddit, that's cool, but not really what I'm looking for. I also wish to avoid Barbie-pink sites, sites that are patronising, sites that assume girls are boring simplistic morons who only like hearts and rainbows. (The only sites I have found so far are for feminine hygiene products).

Context: I'm working on a research project/website about/for girls in that age group and their interactions with technology and social media. My researcher/colleague/friend has a tiny budget.

Rookie is "for teenagers", which includes your target demographic.

Youtube is where the kids are. I interact with a lot of Girl Scouts, and they don't talk about going to websites, they talk about youtube.

Though I've got one 6th grader who reads Vice.

Teen Vogue is in that space.

I'm not sure if this falls under the purview of "specifically marketed to", but this age demographic is pretty active on tumblr.

I think most kids that age use apps far more than they use websites. TBH is the new hotness in that arena, and has a fairly distinctive look.

Scarleteen is not at all patronising and aimed at that age group and a bit beyond (I do not know any real teens, though, so maybe they don't go there).

Musical.ly is an app that is crazy popular in that demographic. And definitely youtubers.

Best answer: My 14 year old daughter doesn't normally go to any sites that are designed for teen girls. (I think Rock Steady is probably right that apps are more popular than websites. She spends a lot of time using the Pinterest and Line Webtoon apps.) But I googled "websites for teen girls" and showed her some of those along with some of the ones mentioned above.

She liked the design of these:
Girl Zone (but she found it somewhat annoying that the background doesn't move as you scroll down)
Gurl
Rookie
Scarleteen

She thought these were just okay:
LibraGirl
TeenNick

She didn't like the design of these:
Seventeen
Teen Vogue
Girlscene

Best answer: I feel like someone should reiterate what the OP is actually asking for, which most of the answers are not providing: websites targeted at 12-15 year old girls that some actual girl thinks have appealing designs.

Websites are either designed for 13-15 year old girls, or they require specific parental permissions. "12" is not a legal age for targeting a website that collects user data. (Nevermind the fact that plenty of younger users will just click on the "of course I'm at least 13" button when asked.)

However, you can have a website that allows younger users - NeoPets does; they just require a faxed permission form, which I sent in when my daughter was 9. NeoPets doesn't target girls specifically, but it is aimed at younger gamers. As mentioned, tumblr's also big for teens.
