Where can I find a particular woman's jacket?

Looking for a very specific type of women's hiking/utility jacket. Men's jackets/unisex suggestions also welcome.

I'm looking for a type of jacket that was fairly popular in the early/mid 90s. It was a leather utility/jacket with lots of pockets, like what Keri Russell is wearing here:

My older sister had one back then, and it reminds me of all sorts of warm and fuzzy times.

I've tried all manner of search terms. I've searched high and low and can't find one that meets my specifications:

1. Leather or faux-leather, not vinyl/nylon
2. Brown/tan
3. Bulky and a *little* slouchy is OK, but not poofy
4. No hood
5. No cinching at the waist
6. Not overly feminine
7. Metal buckles and zippers are OK, but no long ties, and no "bling"
8. Some sort of lining is a plus but is not necessary
9. Has a collar
10. Men's jackets that fit the description are totally fine, as long as they come in XS (I'm petite)
11. Shouldn't scream "going fishing" (this one is harder to articulate)
12. Good quality (established brands preferred; no direct-from-China shops)
13. Price: $350 or less

I'm starting to think that this jacket doesn't exist anymore, but I wasn't ready to give up. Thank you for all your help!! Please let me know if I need to clarify anything.

Best answer: Try searching leather barn jacket.

Or field jacket.

I just saw one like this somewhere...*cudgels brains*

Best answer: Like this?

I know you said no nylon, but if you were willing to settle for cotton, I think you'd open up a number of options, e.g., L.L. Bean.

Response by poster: You all are amazing, I knew you would know what I was talking about.

Praemunire, Orvis sells a great choice:

Just may be a bit too fitted, but definitely close.

Kapers, the barn jacket was a great suggestion. This is quite close to the mark, I'm just not a fan of the lining color (too feminine):

Please do keep the suggestions coming if you have them, and thank you so much.

Best answer: That's either a Barbour or something trying to be a Barbour. So, Barbour.

Best answer: If you can't find a women's one you like, look to see if there's a boy's version. I'm a trans guy who would wear a XS men's jacket and boy's L or XL fits me fine. You'll also eliminate any feminine trappings you don't want.

"oilskin rancher jacket" brings up items similar to what you're looking for.

Maybe this one from ebay? Certainly ask the seller for specific measurements. Or this suede one? This lovely one looks nice.

Best answer: I agree that that looks a lot like a Barbour. The search term I'd use for this kind of coat is "waxed jacket".

Lots of options here - some look too short/fitted but others look good.

Best answer: Fjallraven has a couple options that might work. The closest women's jacket is the Raven, but the mens version might work better? It isn't listed on their site, but they carry a jacket called the reporter too, that is pretty close to what you're looking for. LC King has a couple options that might fit. Carhartt has some options too that fit most of your specifications. Filson also carries a couple jackets that vibe with the linked picture. I would say some of them drift over into 'going fishing' territory, but not all of them do.

Most jackets like this aren't leather, they're almost exclusively canvas, and as Bored_now_flay suggests, often waxed (which, is awesome, and wears great).

I just returned this one in green this weekend as I felt it was a bit too military-ish for my style, but it was well made, had lots of pockets, and looks similar to what you are looking for. It is cotton, though. (I think Keri's jacket in your picture was made of canvas, too)

You can also searching for "deerskin" which is a softer, thinner, leather. I used to have a waxed cotton jacket, it was great - shed water like a raincoat but not crinkly.

Best answer: The jacket she is wearing almost certainly isn't leather. It looks like a brown canvas Carhartt jacket with a corduroy collar (similar to the denim one I had in the early 90's.)

Searching for "duck" as the type of fabric gave some better responses, like this Carhartt Women's Weathered Duck Wesley Coat.

Response by poster: Everyone, thank you so much for your help. I can't tell you how long I've been looking for this type of jacket.

The terms "field" and "barn" jacket helped a LOT, as did identifying the material as canvas, not leather.

Thank you especially to those who suggested Barbour - their jackets are perfect! That cozy, slouchy look I was expecting is probably just from wearing in the jacket. Carhartt is very very close, so if I can't find the exact jacket from Barbour, I'll head to Carhartt next.

Many, many thanks to everyone.

I have a jacket very similar to the pictured one from Lucky (the jeans company). Mine is dark brown, doesn't have the shoulder pocket, and does have a waist cinch (which I either tied out of the way or cut out - it fits fine without it). It has a soft, nice looking liner. I got it probably 5 years ago, but I see similar jackets nearly every time I go in there. I saw one a couple weeks ago in a rusty red - they often have more colors online.

It's definitely more "going out" than going fishing, but I've worn mine for all sorts of occasions.

Response by poster: I ended up going with the Orvis barn jacket:

It is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you so much, everyone!!
