Songs of Brotherly Love

Recommend me some music that celebrates Philadelphia as a city. Any genre. The song doesn't need to specifically call out the city's name, nor does it need to be explicitly an "I love Philly" song. I'm just looking for songs that are unapologetically Phila-centric and recognizable as such to those who know the city. I will say that I am looking for good music. Songs that are popping and have incidentally Philadelphian content are better than mediocre songs that are Philly beginning to end.

I guess since you didn't cite it as the ur-example in your question we can kick it off with Motownphilly.

I think "T.S.O.P. (The Sound of Philadelphia)" by MFSB is a mandatory inclusion, as is "Philly Jump" by Instant Funk.

Bandstand Boogie

We're goin' hoppin' , we're goin' hoppin' today
Where things are poppin' , The Philadelphia way...

The show American Bandstand's roots are in Philadelphia, and while the theme song's lyrics (added in the 70s by some guy named Barry Manilow) only mentions the city twice, it belongs to Philadelphia just the same.

Rocky and Philly go together like broccoli rabe and roasted pork so any music from those movies reminds me of the city. Such as Eye Of The Tiger.

Nothing may be more Philly than Move Closer To Your World.

Nothing may be more Philly than Move Closer To Your World .

The only thing more Philly than that is The Roots' cover of it, from Made In America, aired on WPVI!

No one's said Streets of Philadelphia yet?

Always pairs with Neil Young's "Philadelphia" in my mind, probably thanks to the Philadelphia soundtrack.

The whole Philadelphia soundtrack is 👌. I binged on it heavy at least a decade before I moved here. Streets is great, but the Neil track really captures some somberness. (In retrospect I would have expected Springsteen to do better.)

On that note: “Atlantic City”
They blew up the Chicken Man in Philly last night
Now they blew up his house too
