Instagram log-in / access nightmare

My main social account now is suddenly blocked. Am I screwed completely or just partially?... I went back to add some hashtags to my newest post. Suddenly I was kicked out, and in order to log back into my account, they asked me to input a 6-digit security code.

The problem is that the number they had on file for me is an old, long-gone cell phone, and the only telephone I have now is home, which does not accept texts.

Now I cannot even access instagram main page. All I get is this “Enter the 6-digit code we sent to the number ending in: 3111“ screen, (and this is not even my number/s).

I submitted a help message on their "Help center", but I assume it is just a big black hole.

Is there anything I can do??

Please help! I really want to get back in.

Sounds like someone got into your account and turned on two-factor authentication. Do you recognize the last four digits of the number it says it sent the code to (even if it's your old cell number) or are they totally foreign to you?

I have an insta but don't really use it. I'll see what options they have for recovery but be prepared that you might be out of luck; two-factor is pretty secure and not designed to be circumvented. In fact the biggest reason I give to people to turn it on is so that someone doesn't guess your pass and get into your account and turn it on against you.

Best answer: From a comment on this page:

"Open instagram app --> "Forgotten your log in details?" Click on "Get help with signing in" ---> "Trouble with logging in?" Click on Need more help? ---> "Request support" contact form comes up, fill in this with your information. The form is not obvious it's a form, so make sure you do fill everything in even though the layout of it looks kind of strange.

Instagram will contact you back. Hope it helps!"

Note: the person with the original issue was eventually asked to take a photo of themselves holding up the code written on paper. So, be ready for that. Also note: this is via the app, it's probably not possible via the web interface.

Just wanted to say I had someone get into my Instagram account recently and went through the exact process Lyn Never described. They were quick and got me access again.
