I'm Gonna Show You Crazy

Similar songs to Bebe Rexha's I'm Gonna Show You Crazy? Loving the lyrics and overall feel of the song. Just left an abusive relationship and looking for similar sounding songs to take my power back.

Best answer: Not especially similar, but I personally found Pop Evil's Trenches* absolutely essential while breaking away from my abuser, and long afterwards in keeping my No Contact resolve. It has been three years, two months and counting. I am not merely a 'survivor' of narcissistic abuse in a relationship , but a surthriver. You've got this, Malleable. You've also got me, if you ever want/need someone to MeMail.

*- SLYT, to the live version of the song: the official video might possibly be triggering, and the lyric videos are inaccurate.

Best answer: The new Kesha album Rainbow, especially Praying. She gets it. She gets it.

I found No Children by the Mountain Goats and You Must Be Out Of Your Mind by the Magnetic Fields to be personally very cathartic when I left my abuser.

Best of luck, seriously, it's a hard road, but the best is yet to come--I promise.

Response by poster: The recommendations so far are awesome. Even if they aren't exactly similar I am open to any empowering fuck you I will rise above this type music to get through this.

And for those addressing the abusive side of this question, this was me: http://ask.metafilter.com/312453/Mr-Always-Right. I am out and safe now.

Bring on the music recommendations!

At risk of derailing, on review:

Please allow me to change "merely" with "only", above. I now realize how my clumsy original phrasing could come across to others reading my response, which is nowhere near what I meant, or would imply. All survivors are to be credited, no one 'better' than another. The conflating of terms has me cringing, apologies. :/

The Top 40 canonical version of this concept is Titanium by Sia

The county-western canonical version of this concept is Before He Cheats by Carrie Underwood, although from your Ask history it looks like you have cowboy boots so you probably already know this song

Black Molly by the Mountain Goats--listen for when the crowd starts paying attention to Mr. Darnielle

Demi Lovato's Confident is still pretty hot

BBHMM by Rihanna might be close enough although the music video isn't really relevant/may be triggering

More generally, NPR commissioned a list of The 150 Greatest Albums Made by Women, which is probably a good stepping-off point--less for reclaiming your power and more for women being powerful

Several songs from Pink's 2nd album, Missundaztood, hit this spot for me. In particular: Just Like A Pill, 18 Wheeler, Numb.

Alanis Morissette taps into this vein fairly often too, in various ways. Hands Clean, So Unsexy, Precious Illusions, Sorry to Myself, Right Through You.

Also: Tori Amos. Especially: Crucify, Silent All These Years, Precious Things.

Goodby Earl came out as if on que, right as I was leaving my abuser. Man did that song make me feel good!!! (now it makes me feel old, but oh well, its still a great song). ***dont miss the video for it, nothing beats old dead Earl dancing around in the finale!

Black Widow by Iggy Azalea
Since U Been Gone by Kelly Clarkson
FourFiveSeconds by Rihanna, Paul McCartney, Kanye West
I Love It - Icona Pop Ft. Charli XCX

Also, basically every Katy Perry song? For example, Roar

"I used to bite my tongue and hold my breath
Scared to rock the boat and make a mess
So I sat quietly, agreed politely
I guess that I forgot I had a choice
I let you push me past the breaking point
I stood for nothing, so I fell for everything

You held me down, but I got up
Already brushing off the dust
You hear my voice, you hear that sound
Like thunder, gonna shake the ground"

and Part of Me

"You chewed me up and spit me out
Like I was poison in your mouth
You took my light, you drained me down
But that was then and this is now"

Oldie but goodie: That Don't Impress Me Much - Shania Twain

"I've known a few guys who thought they were pretty smart
But you've got being right down to an art
You think you're a genius-you drive me up the wall
You're a regular original, a know-it-all…"

Quieter and sadder:
