Which iPod do you have?

I'm thinking about making ipod cozies to sell, given the great sucess of the few I've already made for my friends. I would like to produce a big batch of them but, I don't know how many of each size to make. I'm looking to use Metafilter as a sample population from which to base my proportions.

I have a black Nano.

I don't have an iPod.

Also, aren't people who participate in focus groups usually compensated?

I have an iPod mini. (You needn't compensate me.)

iPod mini. Pink! And box's snark was compensation enough.

Response by poster: sorry box. AskMe isn't really a pay-for-advice venture. Maybe someone over at Google Answers will pay you, though. :)

I've got a 20GB. The variant that looks like this with the all-white/not-a-click wheel. I forget what "generation" number they refer to it as. Third, maybe?

I have a mini. My boyfriend has a shuffle.

The mini was the most popular model until it was discontinued, and there are a lot of people out there who have older model iPods...but fewer and fewer places where you can buy a good case for them. (Picked over clearance items, etc.) Perhaps you'd be filling a niche market if you wee to create cases for the older generation iPods.

I'd buy a cozy, btw. I can't really find a case I like and like all other small electronics I own, I have a bad habit of dropping them. Just yesterday I managed to hurl my nano into the gravel parking lot at work while getting out of my car.

Wannabe hipster?? They've sold over 40 million of the things, I think it's crested way over the hipster infatuation with shiny mark to the mass market infatuation-with-shiny mark.

Original white 5GB with the free-spinning wheel and a replacement battery. It's not always fun having to lock and unlock to change tracks while driving, but it beats the volume going up and down randomly whenever I turn the steering wheel.

I work out with the Creative MuvoTxFM 1GB in firecracker red.

60GB video ("5th generation").

Not to rain on your parade, but after I lost the slipcover that the iPod comes with, I fashioned a cover out of the clear plastic bag that had contained the slipcover. I also left the clingy plastic that the iPod ships with on the face plate, trimming it slightly to expose the dock port.

With a little bit of cellophane tape, I now have a permanent protective "case" that never has to be removed, through which I can both see the screen and manipulate the controls.

There are holes for the headphone jack and the dock jack, and, being careful, I added probably redundant openings at each of the four corners, to ensure there would not be any problems with the hard drive because pressure couldn't equalize at higher altitudes.

Oh, and it's claimed that the newer iPods scratch easily (I haven't experienced this myself, since my iPod stays in its plastic cocoon). You'll want to make sure the lining of your cozies doesn't scratch the iPOd when it is put in or removed from the cozies. Microfiber maybe?

Mate, my 60 year old boss has one. So does my boyfriend's 10 year old nephew in Bangladesh. I don't think this is a hipster item.

I have the 60gig black 5G, to which I upgraded from a 20 gig 3G that now belongs to my best friend. If you really want to get a feel for what distribution of sizes you need to worry about, shouldn't you be able to work that out from Apple's quarterly stock filings? (I don't actually know, but I thought that's where the various analyst sites get their sales numbers from.)

Come on, Skallas, can you really call me a market researcher? I'm a poor college student looking to turn a hobby I enjoy into a little spare cash. Honestly. Don't you have a better way to use your time than flagging well-intentioned posts, Driveler? I've seen plenty of posts on AskMe where people are just trying to find information to help themselves make money/be more sucessful/have more fun. This is no different.
