Pfeffi in the USA?

I am flying to the states for Burning Man in a few weeks, and I really would love to bring some (a lot of) pfefferminzlikör to my campmates. If I can find a vendor in the States I can order a case to my friends, but I haven't found one yet. Berliner Luft would be an acceptable choice too, but I really want the cheap neon green garbage.

Best answer: Is this the same as crème de menthe? Because you can find that at any liquor store.

Best answer: It is the same as crème de menthe. Perhaps the German stuff is particular in a certain way?

Where are you flying into? Each state has it's own liquor laws, and should be considered it's own country for such searches. I'm guessing you'll be flying into CA or NV? I would call each state's Liquor Commission (CA) (NV). If any is available for sale in either state, they will know where to find it (as most states track 'imports' of liquor from out of state and out of country).

Alternatively, I would focus your search on German grocery stores, even if they don't sell liquor; they'll know where to find it, if it can be had. At least around my hood, ethnic markets of all stripe tend to have hookups. Even if they're less than legal.

Would Rumple Minze work? It's a type of peppermint schnapps widely available in the US. 50% ABV (100 proof).

I'm close to Reno (the nearest airport to the Playa) and can easily check if you can buy this at one of the handful of large liquor stores in the area - Ben's or Total Wine. Send me a PM if I can help.

Response by poster: Thanks all -

zippy/furnace.heart - i bet i can find some de kuyper creme de menthe here and do a taste test! if it really is the same that makes this so easy, though it appears to be 25% alcohol vs 18% for the pfeffi i usually get. That's not exactly a *problem* tho is it?

furnace.heart, excellent suggestion re: german groceries.

Wretch- rumpleminze is about twice as strong as what i'm looking for

HeyAllie - thanks! i think i will do a little more research but I appreciate it, you may indeed get that PM

Best answer: For a CA source I'd call or email The Junket, which is an awesome British / German market and deli in Albany.

From that link:

Please call Cindy if you are looking for a hard to find specialty item. She has… connections… [phone] or [email] with your request.
