The most comically inexpert belief you've heard expressed by an expert

So one doctor (me) is talking to this other doctor when a guy with a labrador retriever service dog walks past...

This led me to mention that my first dog was a lab, that I had gotten her as a puppy as a college graduation present, and that I had still had a real soft spot for the breed. Talk then turned turned the Canadian Province of Newfoundland and Labrador, whether the breed originated there, and whether, he asked rhetorically, wild labrador retrievers could still be found there. I asked him what he meant and, as he explained, it became clear my colleague believed that all breeds of dogs could be found in nature. So I inquired further, and yes--this neurologist, this professor of medicine at a leading university hospital ratified the idea of wild chihuahua packs roaming northern Mexico, and bulldogs in the English midlands. It's just too funny, too delightfully inexpert not to celebrate. Any similar stories anyone?
