Accidentally sent BIG amazon package to old address -- what do do now?

I am an idiot and accidentally sent my Amazon packages (some of which are pretty big) to an old address. My old landlord is understandably annoyed and doesn't want to deal with it. He's an old man, not a professional landlord in the business-y sense of the word. It is far away from where I live, and I don't know anyone in the area who can get them for me.

What can I do? I am in the US. Is there an easy way to get UPS to come and take them back without my landlord having to open them or do anything? I really don't want to ask him to do more than the bare minimum.

You can schedule a pickup here. There may be a pickup fee.

Call Amazon? I don't know what they would propose, but it might be something helpful.

I did this once and the packages disappeared from the old address. I sent an email to Amazon customer service explaining my mistake and asking if it was possible to get the order resent and receive a credit if the packages happened to be returned to sender rather than stolen. Amazon just resent the items to my correct address, free of charge. Your mileage may vary, but it never hurts to ask.

Amazon’s support works really hard to help with stuff like this. Last fall we had a package that should have arrived before vacation fail to, so we called and Amazon called UPS on behalf of us and rerouted the package to our hotel. UPS then insisted they couldn’t find the hotel despite a STACK of Amazon packages at the front desk, so Amazon helped us find the location our package was going to be held at locally so we could pick it up. Definitely start with calling Amazon and go from there.

I'd also contact Amazon, but in a pinch, can you hire someone on Task Rabbit to go get them and mail them to you?
