UK - Nice quality children's furniture please

Up until now, my 2 year old has been in with us. He's soon getting his own room and we want to find him some lovely furniture- probably bed, wardrobe, drawers and bookcase.

Once upon a time, we were looking at nursery furniture, but it now feels a bit baby-ish, although I suppose a lot of his little buddies will still have it. From my initial searches there didn't seem to be a lot of designated children's furniture, so maybe it's a case of putting ordinary wardrobe/drawers etc in there. But it would be nice to make his room special, seeing as its been a long time coming!
Some additional:
- We like IKEA, 3/4 of our stuff is IKEA, IKEA may be the answer.
- My PIL are giving us the money, so our budget is reasonably large (when we were looking at nursery stuff, it was Mamas and Papas type prices)
-We are in NW England.
-It doesn't need to be as matchy as nursery furniture tends to be.
Thanks as ever.

Best answer: The IKEA Kura bed is super popular among the toddler/preschooler parents in my area, and very customizable.

We choose a solid wood headboard. A Hemnes dresser from IKEA. We have two handmade pieces as well. Went straight to adult sizes pieces and then used age appropriate bedding and curtains.

For the bed, we used the IKEA wooden slats, and an extremely cheap mattress (no box spring) until past the bed wetting stage. Then upgraded to decent quality mattress and box spring

Looking back (my kids are 10 and 12), the only regret I have is buying twin beds. My boys are huge and will probably need longer beds for their height.

M&S furniture is surprisingly nice (I don't shop there for clothes but both their furniture and their baby clothes are really good). And they have a sale on at the minute.

Yes to the KURA! You set it up with the bed at the bottom while they're smaller and getting used to not falling out of bed, then when they're old enough, surprise! You can flip it upside down and they now have a loft bed with a ladder!

STUVA wardrobe is good and very customisable - different colour doors, and you can have drawers at the bottom instead of full-length doors.

I love IKEA kids’ furniture, especially the Kura bed. It's cute on its own, but it's designed simply enough that it goes with a lot of different decors. It's sturdy enough to wear well, and modular enough to expand if need be.

I have no children, and all the furniture in my childhood room (except the mattress) was literally picked off the landfill, so adjust your grain of salt accordingly. But I do have an IKEA living/dining room set that is sturdy as cinderblocks.

Unless you have a guest room, I vote getting kid a double sized bed and getting the Hemnes stuff.

Response by poster: The Kura is awesome! We had been discussing how cool a cabin bed was when we were younger, so the thought of having the option is pretty cool. An IKEA trip calls! (Mr Threetwentytwo does not thank you quite as much as I, mind you).

Thanks as ever, you clever bunch.

Check out TROFAST while you're there, super super useful for toys as it's easy for the kid to put stuff away and separate different stuff into different drawers. Comes in various shapes.
