Fine dining in TO with a small child

Is there any hope for us: 9 adults and one toddler looking for the finest dining we can find for one night in Toronto.

Friends, please work your magic and help me find a great spot for dinner in Toronto. Here are the caveats:

- 9 adults and one toddler. The toddler is quiet and well behaved and can generally tolerate a long dinner out
- Must be in the Entertainment District. We're all visiting from out of town and toddler's parents are not keen to travel farther than walking distance from their hotel near Rogers Centre
- A private room and tasting menu would be ideal
- Money is no object! (I am not the one paying for this meal)

Does such a restaurant exist? Thank you in advance for your help!

Response by poster: One addition: dinner is at the end of July, so "walking distance" refers to summertime walking distance. Not wintertime. That is a whole other thing.

Best answer: Almost all of Toronto's truly fine dining restaurants are within walking distance of the Rogers Center, but are not in what I think of as the Entertainment District per se.

Alo is probably the number one place on my 'restaurants I wish I could afford' list in Toronto. They do tasting menus, but don't have private dining that I am aware of.
Canoe has tasting menus and private dining, though 10 people might be a bit small for even their smaller private room? I'm not sure, you could certainly ask.
Lee will do private dining events as small as 10 people.

Just an FYI -- if 'the end of July' is before the 23rd, you will be super screwed by Summerlicious taking up everything everywhere.

Best answer: Shoto, the highest end restaurant at Momofuku would work. They do a great tasting menu and I've seen kids there. The food is amazing.

Canoe is amazing and is perched 50 floors up. They may not be open on Saturday nights as they book frequently for weddings. The food and service are among the best in the city.

There is a sister restaurant to Canoe, called Luma which is also great. Not as high end, but the space is lovely and the food excellent. The same restaurateur also has Biff's Bistro, which is within walking distance as well.

Book well in advance! There are lots of great restaurants in the city, but there are also lots of people who want to go to them! There's also Summerlicious, which is a marketing thing where lots of restaurants have reduced menus and prix fixe deals.

You'd have to cab, but the tasting menu at Actinolite is the best meal I've had in the city. (I've eaten at all the above) There are about 30 seats in the place, and the chef will come out and talk to you about where the ingredients came from and how it was prepared.

Just outside walking distance is La Banane, which is super hip. Order the Disco Egg for dessert.

The restaurant listings and reviews at Toronto Life will help you narrow your focus. The Globe and Mail writes longer reviews of some of the better restaurants in the city as well.

Best answer: Luckee Restaurant, which is headed by the same person as the previously recommended Lee, has a private dining room that fits up to 25 people and have prix fixe menus (they don't use the term tasting menu) from CAD50~70.
Very enjoyable especially if your dining companions love Chinese food :D
