What would be a good, small utility for tracking my inbound/outbound DSL bandwidth consumption (as an end user)? All the tools I'm Googling seem to be for system administrators... I'm not running a server.

Here's a small, free bandwidth monitor from the 2nd page of the Google search.

AnalogX's NetStat Live might be what you're looking for. I've heard some nasty things about their proxy software (leaving you as a wide open proxy on the net, I think), but NetStat seems to be a decent little app.

You could also buy a router like the WRT54G (if you don't have one already), upload custom firmware like hyperWRT, and look at the router info. This might not be the solution you are looking for, but a lot of routers have this info.

WAN (rx/tx) :
13.69 G (1.59 K/s) 14.16 G (0.20 K/s)

Assuming you mean for a single computer, DU Meter works quite well, and doesn't look too ugly to boot. I'm reasonably sure it will keep track of bandwidth usage long-term, although I haven't verified that myself.

I use NetPerSec. Even though PCMag tries to charge for their prieviously free utilities, you can easily download it here.

Also, the program NetMeteris a small, clean, free (gratis) utility I use when I just want to see what my current up/down is.
