Alexandra Quick by Inverarity. Engaging, well-written, novel-length, SFW fiction set in an American Hogwarts.

I don't have enough information to answer this.

What I am obliquely trying to ask is what your feelings are towards various forms of romance and adult themes existing in your fan fiction and what you are prioritizing. A lot of the better written HP fanfics, I find, contain a central non-canon romance, but aren't necessarily Just About That.

Response by poster: Don't care as long as it's well-written. There was a post-Avengers Steve/Tony fic I liked (that had a burgeoning Nat/Bruce hints in epistolary touches In the background, but I can't recall the name now) I liked.

No HPMoR.

I like Lust over Pendle and its kin. I find the Potter-Vorkosigan crossovers by the same author a little over-egged, but sometimes I want custard.

ArchiveOfOurOwn's Harry Potter works tagged with United States - sorted by kudos, filtered to complete only. These are not going to all be set in the US; "tagged with United States" can mean a broad range of things.

If you haven't read a lot of fanfic, please check the tags/warnings. (There's nothing quite like thinking, "it's fanfic; 800 people like it; why would I have a problem with it?" and then discovering the hard way that A/B/O forced marriage fic is really not your thing.)

I came here to rec the Alexandra Quick series, but I see Combat Wombat has beaten me to it! So consider this an enthusiastic +1. Last time I looked I think there were four stories, all of them about as long as one of the earlier (i.e. shorter) HP novels, and it's probably time for my traditional summer binge-read. Fantastic stories, with really great worldbuilding and some interesting American niche wizarding communities - the Ozark witches in Alexandra's class have an especially intriguing background.

The Ozark witches are a crossover from a linguist's SF trilogy The Ozark Trilogy, here "snarked with love" by Inverarity.
