Are my smartphone pictures recoverable?

Long story short: I THOUGHT I'd backed up my pictures & video to both Verizon and Google, but alas, no. I factory reset my phone because I was hoping I was having some software issues, but it turns out what I actually have is a non-functional micro-USB charging port.

I understand that there are some methods out there of recovering data from a phone that has been factory reset, but they all seem to involve plugging into a computer via USB. A bad port is what has lead to the premature death of my phone, so that option is no good.

All in all, I lost about 2 months worth of pictures of my kid, which sucks, but I can survive. However, I'm hoping someone savvier than I might be able to come up with a solution. Phone is a Droid Maxx. The port is shot, but it's just enough juice for an hour or two of fiddling.

It's a solid state (SSD) drive. I searched recover data solid state drive SSD. Sandisk suggests data is recoverable. I don't know if this can be done on the phone, or if you'll need to pull the drive. Turn the phone off; using the drive is likely to destroy any data that is present and marked as not in use.
