Help me set up my sound system.

I have a functioning outdoor speaker system that connects to a currently nonexistent sound system via these wires. What I'd like is to be able to stream music from an iPad, via bluetooth, into these wires, somehow. But how? Please assume I know nothing about audio setups.

Best answer: How many speakers do those wires go to? I'm going to assume two (that is, 2 of those wires go to one speaker and two go to the other).

This is one way you could do it.

First, you'll need an amp to power the speakers. You can kill two birds with one stone here by getting an amp with bluetooth capabilities. Check which wires go into which speakers and then follow the amp's instructions on how to wire them into the back of the amp correctly (sockets will be marked). Turn on the amp and follow the instructions for how to stream music to the amp via bluetooth from your phone.

Search 'Bluetooth amplifier' on amazon, the Yamaha R-S202BL Stereo Receiver seems to be the top rated on there right now, or depending on your budget the Pyle Bluetooth Stereo Amplifier Receiver is slightly less expensive [I have no experience with either of these, so I can't speak to the sound quality, etc, they were just the first ones that came up when I searched.]

Response by poster: Thanks! They had a refurbished one available for $30 off. Hopefully I'll be pumping out some music for the weekend!

Best answer: AllTheQuestions is on point. One note with the wires - once you isolate which two wires go to which speaker, there are two possible ways to hook them up, both of which will work but one of which will be better.

Let's say that the black and green go to the left side speaker(s) and red and white go the right. The amp will have two outputs for each side, most likely red and black. These are the positive and negative connectors - the speakers also have positive and negative connectors. You can hook positive to positive or positive to negative and both ways will work and sound fine as long as you do it the same way on both speakers. But one positive to positive and one positive to negative will result in phase issues that will sound weird. This gives some basic information on how to test for that. Depending on where your speakers are situated from each other, it may be tricky to notice the issue.
