A window to another world? XBox one to iMac Skype chat - will it work?

I'm trying to set up a system so that I can hang out with a family member from my iMac and their living room TV. I'm open to any system, but it seems like the easiest thing might be to get them an Xbox One + Kinect and do the chat via Skype. Will that work? Is there another way that would be easier/better?
I want to get to have video chat/calls with my sister, via my computer and her TV. (phone/laptop/ipad solutions aren't ideal b/c I'd like her to be able to see and be seen for most of her medium sized room. )
Skype for Xbox One + Kinect seems like it will do this. It doesn't seem like there's an easy option through apple TV or amazon fire, or chromecast, which seems weird to me, but I don't think I'm missing anything.
Right now, the xbox solution will cost about $270. Is there something better/cheaper I'm missing? Ease of use is pretty important.
