Rug Appraisal & Selling how does it work?

I have a gigantic Persian carpet handed off to me by my Grandmother. I believe it is wool and given close examination appears to be hand-knotted.

I'm in the Bay Area and don't even know how to begin with Appraisal and selling. Any direction would be appreciated. Not sure where to start.

Best answer: Contact a reputable auction house in the Bay Area and ask for the names of carpet appraisers that they recommend. Be prepared to pay for the services of the appraiser who will provide you information on the origins of your carpet, its condition and value, how to care for it, and ways to sell it should you wish to go that route.
