What font is on the cover of American Girl books from the '90s?

What is this font, as seen on the "classic" (to me) covers?

One weird thing is the sorta wonky Y. I think the R looks a little odd, too. Further, I think these might be small caps, which is what is throwing some of the mechanical search off. Here are some more examples:
"Changes For Felicity"
"Meet Molly"
"Kirsten Learns a Lesson"

I have tried Identifont and WhatFontIs, but it’s not working, and now I’m pulling my hair out. I feel like this is such an obvious serif classic (no, it's not Trajan), and yet I am coming up empty. Help me, oh wonderful MeFi font-spotters!

Just to add, Palatino is a default font that comes with both Windows and Mac OS, so you most likely have it on your computer already.
