Storing luggage in SYD

How do we store our luggage when we transit through SYD?

Aerosolkid and I are planning a fantabulous vacation to New Zealand and Australia at the beginning of 2018. I’m sure we’ll be back with itinerary questions, but for now, we’re wondering about storing luggage. We will fly into SYD on February 10, connecting 3 hours later to AKL. We’ll return to SYD from New Zealand around February 18. We’d like to store a suitcase in SYD for the week.

We’ve seen that you can store luggage with SmarteCarte in T1. If we’re transiting from Australia to New Zealand, will we be able to access that facility? Will we have to go through immigration and then back again after storing the bag? Finally, will it be easy to pick it up when we fly back from New Zealand a week later?

Thanks for your help. We’re counting down the days until this trip!

Best answer: Yes, you will need to go through immigration to access the SmarteCarte facility - it's on the ground floor in the arrivals hall at the bottom of the main escalator up to the Departures level. With three hours between your flights, you will easily be able to pass through immigration to drop the bag and then go upstairs and back through immigration again to get your connecting flight.
