Where should my girl gang eat in Sante Fe?

5 gals, looking to eat good food in Sante Fe on Friday the 17th. Looking for a moderately priced, casual sit down restaurant somewhere cute and walkable in the cool historic part of town. Beer and wine is a must, New Mexican cuasine is preferred. We'll be dining in the early evening, and definitely want to be able to wander around cool buildings and shops and galleries. Suggestions?

Best answer: The Shed or La Choza are spectacular as far as eatin' goes. The Shed is on the Santa Fe Plaza and La Choza is not too far from the Plaza, maybe a mile or two. Killer red and green chile. Loved by many.

Tomasita's is pretty good too. Close by as well.

Call about reservations, because these places get PACKED. I think that The Shed and La Choza will let you and Tomasita's won't, but I can't remember for sure.

Have fun! Santa Fe rocks!

If you want a place to eat on the Plaza, you can't go wrong with the Plaza Cafe.

Blue Corn Cafe is a favorite of ours, and we never had trouble getting a table in summer even when other places were packed, probably because it's slightly off the plaza. I love their chipotle corn chowder.

I have to mention Maria's, even though it's a ways from the plaza, because it is the BEST restaurant in Santa Fe and worth the walk and the wait. In fact, all these places are worth the wait... don't think anyone has mentioned Cafe Pasqual's, either, although that's a bit pricier.

I really loved La Plazuela at La Fonda. All the places I ate during my week's stay were good, but this was excellent, and has a great atmosphere.

Just thought of something. If you might like to see some scenery away from town and have some transportation, there's a nice place named Gabriel's only about 20 min. north of the Plaza off of Rt. 285 in an area known as Cuyamungue. Map is on the website. They make fresh guacamole at your table!

Response by poster: We ate at the Shed and were very glad we had reservations, and drank so many amazing margaritas. It was very good.
